Cautious as I am I first let the beast onto my Macbook. Installation and migration worked like a charm, all apps worked.
\nSo I couldn’t resist letting it hunt down my production iMac. Installation worked like a charm, migration didn’t though.

\nMy mails were all messed up and Safari wouldn’t launch (Well, I’m a Firefox user so that didn’t really bother me)
\nBut the mail thing was pretty ugly. I played back the backup I just made before upgrading and manually installed Mail again.
\nThis time it worked – only that it would hang when collecting from my POPs – well, not really hang, it wouldn’t just fetch the last mail and wouldn’t close the connection. Only way to help it was to kill -9 it.<\/p>\n
So, what did I do – it was just a desperate try, but: I backuped\/deleted the com.apple.mail.plist, restarted Mail, closed it again, restored the preferences and – voila – works like a charm since then – don’t ask me why.
\nOnly thing that doesn’t work is marking emails as Spam with the SpamSieve plugin… No reply from these guys yet but I don’t really care since I kill most of the spam on my server anyway.<\/p>\n
Leaves Safari – stupid me: I had the Safari 2 app moved to a different folder – the Dock link pointing to that old version.
\nFound out accidently by searching for Safari in Spotlight. Deleted the old app and replaced the link – launches and works just as it should.<\/p>\n
So – what’s left? The shares from my linux servers won’t show up in the sidebar – have to drag them there every time I connect. Since I normally do not shut down my iMac, neither my linux boxes – it’s not a big deal and I didn’t investigate that further.<\/p>\n
Didn’t really check out the ‘new’ features of Leopard – only setup Time Machine to backup to my FireWire drive – pretty annoying actually cause it does that every fucking hour. And this drive is pretty noisy. Also I’m missing more advanced settings for Time Machine, like changing the schedule etc.
\nWell, since I have all my files on my linux servers I don’t really care either – will have it running for a while to be able to play around with it, but probably will shut it down then and never touch it again.<\/p>\n
Other than that – Leopard is working just fine, seems to be a little faster than Tiger (on my 2006 2GHz Intel iMac). Every app I tested works just like before – amongst them Zend Studio, Skype, Parallels, Second Life, Navicat, Merlin, Version Tracker, etc, etc…<\/p>\n
Conclusion: Great job, Jobs ! This was my first OS X upgrade (from 10.4 to 10.5). Never had such a smooth experience with any windows upgrade – not even close!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
